The third season of “The Walking Dead” is still months away, but that hasn’t stopped AMC from teasing zombiephiles with glimpses of new characters. The most recent of these has been David Morrissey as the Governor.
Last month fans got their first real look at Danai Gurira as Michonne, the sword-wielding, hooded bad-ass with pet zombies in tow who saved Andrea at the end of the season two finale. Michonne is a fan favorite from the comic books because of her prowess with a katana and her complex, hardened-yet-vulnerable personality.
Now we have our first look at another pivotal character from the comic books who will be appearing in season three. Feast your eyes upon David Morrissey as the Governor.
Morrissey was cast back in February as the Governor, undeniably the most evil character the survivors have encountered so far in the comic books. The Governor is the leader of a large group of survivors staying in the fortified town of Woodbury. He quickly reveals himself to be the kind of person who lost all their humanity when civilization fell. Encountering the Governor will define the conflict for the survivors in season three.
Last year “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman and author Jay Bonansinga wrote the first of “The Walking Dead” novels, “TWD: Rise of the Governor” to flesh out the Governor’s backstory.
