DC Universe Presents #13, in stores now, represents the DC New 52 debuts of Black Lightning and Blue Devil. This fresh arc of the series is written by Marc Andreyko, with pencils by Robson Rocha, inks from Oclair Albert and colors by Gabe Eltaeb.
For those unfamiliar, Black Lightning, aka Jefferson Pierce, is a high school teacher with electricity-based powers and Blue Devil, aka Dan Cassidy, is a Hollywood stuntman who dons a mystically powered costume. In the New 52 universe, the unlikely pair form a partnership in order to take down a common foe.
Andreyko has the difficult task of re-introducing two fan favorite super heroes in a mere 20 pages, but he is able to effectively, individually. Readers will have to wait a bit longer to see the partnership between the two form. Unfortunately, the only interaction the two characters have here is in a cliched hero vs hero tussle due to a misunderstanding and it is not even a believably executed one at that. That said, we do get to learn a bit about who these characters are, in and out of their super-hero identities, especially Black Lightning.
