Lionsgate taps Francis Lawrence to direct ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ films
Lionsgate has confirmed rumors that Francis Lawrence is being tapped to direct The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.
No details have been released, and it sounds as if the deal is not quite finalized, but Lionsgate wasted no time in responding to rumors. It was only reported this morning that Lawrence would be tapped for the two-part Hunger Games finale.
Lionsgate made the announcement via Twitter, saying only:
Lionsgate has tapped Francis Lawrence to direct @TheHungerGames: MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 and @TheHungerGames: MOCKINGJAY – PART 2
Lionsgate has still not addressed reports that Emmy-winner Danny Strong would write the two-part screenplay. Mockingjay: Part 1 is set for release November 21, 2014 and Part 2 will follow on November 20, 2015.
Lawrence is currently directing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, having taken over for Gary Ross, who departed after completing the first movie in the franchise.
