Marvel introduces a new all-female team in ‘Fearless Defenders’

It was not too long ago that Fear Itself spanned the Marvel Universe causing heroes and villains to wield giant hammers and follow an enormous threat to humanity.

The aftermath of that event was chronicled by writer Cullen Bunn in the miniseries called “Fear Itself: The Fearless” where the Asgardian Valkyrie spanned the globe looking for the magic hammers of the Serpent.

Well it seems Bunn isn’t done telling Valkyrie’s story as he puts the warrior lady in the spotlight in a new ongoing titled “Fearless Defenders”.

The premise of the book is that Valkyrie’s procrastination of finding a new team of Valkyrior has led to a slew of supernatural threats to arrive.

Now to fix this problem, she must choose her new Valkyrior using the women of the Marvel Universe to fend off these new threats.

From the looks of the cover to issue #1, Misty Knight will be joining Valkyrie but the rest of the team will be slowly integrated into the book.

“Fearless Defenders will chronicle the adventures of the female heroes of the Marvel Universe. There will be a central team of characters that will form over time, but the cast will rotate to some degree from arc to arc. This will be a team like none other in Marvel NOW,” said writer Cullen Bunn in an interview with Marvel.com. “I think readers will have a good time speculating on who will be joining this version of the Defenders. The team up of Valkyrie and Misty Knight is probably unexpected for most people, and that’s just one of the surprises I have in store. This will be an offbeat team, and they’ll be facing some bewildering threats.”

Fearless Defenders will be hitting comic stores in February 2013 by the creative team of writer Cullen Bunn (Venom, Sixth Gun, The Fearless) and artist Will Sliney (MacGyver, Star Wars).
