Despite rumors, Gary Ross will not be producing ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’

Gary Ross, director of The Hunger Games, is returning to produce the two-part Mockingjay finale?

Not true, according to sources at Lionsgate.

The rumor of Ross’s involvement in the last two Hunger Games movies came when a fan site spotted his name credited as a producer in the film industry trade magazine Production Weekly. However, administrators at TheHob.org have confirmed with Lionsgate that the rumor is not true, and at this time Ross does not appear to be involved anymore in The Hunger Games franchise.

Ross famously bowed out of directing Catching Fire due to the tight filming schedule, saying it wasn’t enough time to see the film made how he wanted it. That’s when Francis Lawrence stepped in. Having already directed Catching Fire, he has signed on for the two-part Mockingjay adaptation as well.

Mockingjay is expected to begin filming in September. Catching Fire hits theaters in November.
