New comic book releases 10/30/13

New comic book releases 10/30/13. Here we are with some Halloween picks and peeks to inspire some chills for the week. First up we’ll take a look at Dark Horse Comics adaptation of a couple of literary classics in the pages of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven and The Red Death One Shot (Richard Corben). Do you dare to watch the horror unfold in the preview pages in the associated slideshow? Next up the terror factor increases with a creation from a modern master of horror with Boom Studios Hellraiser Annual 2013 #1 (Clive Barker, Mark Miller, Janusz Ordon, Jesus Hervas). Marvel Comics showcases the terror that is “The Devourer of Worlds” in the pages of Cataclysm #0.1 (Joshua Hale Fialkov, Paul Renaud) which does not bode well for the Ultimate Universe. Meanwhile over at IDW Publishing, the resident “Kaiju King” scares up some action in the pages of Godzilla Rulers Of The Earth #5 (Chris Mowry, Jeff Zornow). Five Ghosts #6 (Frank J. Barbiere, Garry Brown) haunts stands with a frighteningly good tale that picks up where the limited series ended. Finally, DC Comics and Vertigo Comics round out this years creep-fest with Swamp Thing Annual #2 (Charles Soule, Javier Pina, Travel Foreman) and the much anticipated return of Neil Gaiman to The Sandman in the pages of The Sandman: Overture #1 (of 6) (Neil Gaiman, J. H. Williams) (check out the associated video to see Mr. Gaiman’s original announcement from back in 2012 that he would return to the beloved series). So, be sure to hit your local comic shop to grab yourself a few comic treats and until next week, enjoy!

‘Charmed’ may be returning to television

CBS announced yesterday, Oct. 25 that they are in the works of making a reboot or according to the release, more of a re-imaging of the WB/CW hit “Charmed“. “Charmed” was an Aaron Spelling hit that told the story of three sisters who find out that they are witches and have to figure out how to balance work, love, and fighting evil. The show lasted 8 seasons and was one of the top all female cast television show ever next to “Murder She Wrote.”

CBS owns the rights to “Charmed” and are looking at “Party of Five” co-creator Chris Keyser and partner Sydney Sidner to co-write this project. But this is just a request for a script and honestly doesn’t promise anything.

Fans have been asking CBS for reunion movie through a very viral petition campaign with even the support from the former actresses of the show, Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano. But when news broke about the possible reboot there wasn’t much positive in the tweets from these same stars.

Alyssa Milano said “The thing about them doing a #charmed reboot is… it just… it feels like yesterday. It feels too close.”

Rose McGowan tweeted ” They are really running out of ideas in Hollywood”.

This is all the news that has been released at this time.

With the success of “Witches of East End”, “American Horror Story:Coven”, “Once Upon a Time” and many other supernatural shows, maybe the executives are finally figuring out that witches are very popular at this time.

So, what do you think of the reboot?

Final trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: CatchingFire’ unveiled

The final trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been unveiled — and though it is only about one-minute long, it features plenty of new footage for fans to get excited about.

The trailer, which debuted during Game 4 of the World Series Sunday night, features a bounty of footage from the arena scenes in Catching Fire — starting with Katniss climbing a tropical tree, surveying the watery clock-like center of the gaming arena, and then aiming her arrow into the sky.

The new tagline “Hope is stronger than fear” also debuts during the trailer, intercut with footage of riots breaking out, Katniss embracing her sister, and training sequences. We then see more footage from the arena, including a look at some of the “monkey mutts,” the poisonous fog, and the Jabberjays.

This is the third and final trailer for Catching Fire, though it’s likely Lionsgate will be releasing more short TV spots in the coming weeks.

The one-minute trailer is intense, and fans are now even more anxious for the film’s November 22nd release date.

Let us know your favorite moments from the trailer in the comments below!

Free vampire magazine released just in time for Halloween

IndieJudge.com announced yesterday on their website that they just released their second edition of their digital magazine online yesterday. This edition focused on the movies, lore and legend of the vampire.

The magazine featured articles, interviews and reviews from vampire authors Stavros, Charles E. Butler, Bertena Varney, Andrew Boylan, Caroline Stikklebroek, David MacDowell Blue, Lachelle Redd, Mo Hussain, Roger Koch, and Scarlette D’Noire. There are also some very intriguing reviews from film critics Seung-woo Baek and Helen Marukh.

Sufi Mohamed is the creator and editor in chief of this wonderful magazine and is also a graduate student in media studies at the University of Luzern in Zurich Switzerland.

When asked about vampires he had this to say about the ever evolving monster:

For me, the vampire is as immortal to popular culture as its nature and symbolizes lust, adventure, and seduction. The vampire is topical, has always been topical throughout time and perhaps there’s a reason, as Caroline explained. The vampire embodies a consciousness that we need, another that exists within and beyond us, both human and yet not at all. A vampire is not only a monster it’s a part of us.

The magazine was Sufi’s creation but he met up with another vampirologist named Anthony Hogg, with whom he credits for assisting him in this edition.

This magazine is a digital edition that is provided for free for your reading. It really brings together some of the world’s well known vampirologists and enthusiasts.

So, please take time and download this wonderful vampire magazine just in time for Halloween. Simply click here and it’s yours.

Black Manta figure leaps from the pages of ‘Aquaman’

DC Collectibles recently released the latest wave in their “DC Comics Super Villains” line of action figures. Among them is the stunning Black Manta action figure based off of Ivan Reis’s DC Comics New 52 re-design of the character from the pages of “Aquaman.” The sculpt was beautifully done by Jean St. Jean.

It has been said before that Black Manta is one of the coolest designs in comics and St. Jean’s sculpt exemplifies that. Manta’s trademark sleek black bodysuit and over-sized diving helmet with giant red eyes are true to form. The additional line work that is the signature of the New 52 re-designed costumes transferred perfectly, adding texture to this simple design. Speaking of texture, the eyes are even sporting some, that is the level of detail put into this sculpt.
