Maybe the kid in you is yearning for some video game icon fun. Then you should maybe consider picking up Archie Comics Sonic Universe #58 (Tracy Yardley, Tracy Yardley & Various Artist). We’ll round things out with some good old fashioned pulp style storytelling from three of the publishers on this list. ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ blazes a November box office record

It’s no surprise that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire blazed a trail to the top of the box office for its opening weekend. The movie earned an estimated $161.1 million for its first weekend in theaters, the best ever opening for the month of November.

It could also mean the fourth-highest opening weekend ever, trailing behind only The Avengers, Iron Man 3, and Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 — some impressive competition, and all of which had boosted sales from 3D ticket pricing. (Catching Fire was not released in 3D, although it did have playings in IMAX theaters, which generally cost more than traditional screenings.)Catching Fire has already outperformed the first movie in the series, The Hunger Games, compared to its first weekend at the box office, which opened with more than $152 million in March 2012.

And yes, Catching Fire also bested the three Twilight Saga sequels that also opened the same the weekend in November, which each earned between $138.1 million and $142.8 million during their opening weekends.

Worldwide, Catching Fire has also been a huge success. The film opened in 63 international markets, bringing in $138.4 million in global box office sales. Lionsgate claims Catching Fire doubled the opening of The Hunger Games in most international markets.

Catching Fire is expected to continue pulling in strong numbers over the next few weeks, much like The Hunger Games did during its release last year. It will likely see a boost thanks to holiday movie-goers this coming week due to the long Thanksgiving weekend.

‘Catching Fire'(storm): Panem breach-breaks ‘Dark World’ and November records

For the insiders’ tolling the demising inevitable that forebodes over the blockbuster, if fade out comes it will descend from a sequential pinnacle of fan-hungry sequels.

With the intensive to feed enthusiastic movie-goers an awaited sophomore installment, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” upends its own premiere weekend potential with a staggering bottom-line of $186. million. 2012s catalyzing devotee-snagger and Jennifer Lawrence theatrical greeter took in $152.5 mil at its opening three-day.

The Nov. 22 to Nov. 24 take-in insets for Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novels an upgrading enrollment within the industry’s all-time weekend openers. Where this best-of category assembles “The Avengers”, imbeds a criminal-warring “The Dark Knight” and turbos “Iron Man 3”, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” encroaches joining the Golden Snitch finalizer “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” in diversifying the listing from comic book movies’ dominance.

“Thor: The Dark World” didn’t come totally asunder with its drop from a two weeks-running first place. Marvel’s second Phase 2 film in 2013 joins the regular box office ranks with a mortal-maker $14.1 million aggregate for the Asgardian deity.

It does place the second Chris Hemsworth-starring film at a particular rung for best box office debuts within films opening in Nov. throughout film history. “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” ousts “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” from the top seat, while the co-starring return of Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence successive additionally exceeds the 8th placing Thor sequel.

For all the record makings, Nov. continues to story itself on respectable runners-up from considered underdog productions. “The Best Man Holiday” held its dramedy-premised ground by only dropping one ranking into a $12.4 million third-placing accumulate. The so-far one animation salient this Nov. in “Free Birds” doesn’t flop down from last weekend’s Top 5. The film featuring the voices of Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson coops up right at ranking on
fifth with $5.3 million.

New comedy “Delivery Man” claims a $7.9 million debut three-day.

Upcoming, a feast of movie-going newcomers sets up the cinematic course on Thanksgiving’s timeline of days for the ranking top five. En mass ticket-sales opens up new fluctuations for the current top rankings even as action-hitters “Homefront” and “Oldboy” mixes with Disney’s animation flick “Frozen” and holiday signifier “Black Nativity” as all of these bring their opening weekend possibilities.

NBC releases promo video for Josh Hutcherson’s ‘SNL’ episode

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire star Josh Hutcherson will host “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, and NBC has now released his promo reel for the upcoming episode.

In the video clips, Hutcherson and “SNL” comedian Bobby Moynihan run through a series of jokes and light gags, teasing this weekend’s episode. Hutcherson will be joined on “SNL” on November 23rd by musical guest HAIM.

Hutcherson’s appearance is timed nicely to Friday’s theatrical release of Catching Fire, the second movie in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise. His hosting gig on “SNL” follows a busy couple of weeks promoting Catching Fire for media appearances, as well as multiple red carpet premieres.

It’s expected Hutcherson’s episode will feature at least one spoof of The Hunger Games series, which is referenced throughout the promo reel. Last year when co-star Jennifer Lawrence hosted “SNL,” she recreated her role of Katniss Everdeen in a “press conference” about winning the Hunger Games.

“SNL” also previously spoofed The Hunger Games in an episode hosted by Sofia Vergara.

Conjuring heroes: Magical supers film spoken on by Guillermo del Toro

From a project aiming to hinge those mysterious exploits belonging to a magic-based cabal of superheroes, the forwarding productions so far lie low inside a Phantom Zone stasis. The media dubbed “Justice League Dark” is the posit for a new movie that gathers a specific clique of niche-renowned properties out the DC Comics catalog and from the membership of the Justice League canon. The concept coalesces by way of the creative mind able to pull together the sci-fi blockbuster “Pacific Rim” and the haunting “Pan’s Labyrinth”, director and producer Guillermo del Toro. The development broke headlines Winter of last year, preceding the 2013 release for the giant robots-and-monsters flick. Past the headline hype and the July release of “Pacific Rim” little word about “JLD” was brought to light, and while it remained inconclusive one occultist hero recently moved towards a weekly series under development. NBC and DC Entertainment made the Sept. announcement for a TV-bound solo progression that adapts the testy quipster and cigarette habitue Londoner John Constantine for a surname titular detective series. With all the suspense rumbling about two live action media takes, del Toro had a remark for a Cinefilos.it interview that Screen Rant excerpts. A statement which is more than verbal legerdemain and still maintains a bit of indeterminate.

“We’re still [working on ‘Justice League Dark’], writing, and hopefully it will happen but there are no developments that are new. We’re still at Warner Bros., they are making plans for the entire DC universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They’re planning on TV, movies, and all the media, so we have to fit into that plan.”

Until more is heard “Wonder Woman” and “Justice League” has the subjoining “JLD” roster of Zatanna, Deadman, Specter, Swamp Thing, Doctor Mist and the likewise adding on to a growing count of production potentials. (ScreenRant)

New comic book releases 11/13/13

This week we have a slew of first issues hitting stands from the likes of Marvel Comics, Dynamite Entertainment and Valiant Entertainment. Let’s take a look. Marvel Comics proclaims “CHRIS CLAREMONT is joined by classic X-Artist BOB MCLEOD to bring you an untold story of the X-Men starring Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Kitty Pryde and Rogue!” (Salvador Larroca, Jorge Molin, Louise Simonson and various other “A” list creators) for X-Men Gold #1 (check out the associated video for a peek at the next X-Men film which adapts some of Chris Claremont’s ‘Days Of Future Past‘ storyline). If a bit of pulp noir is more your speed, consider heading over to Dynamite Entertainment for some Noir #1 (Victor Gischler, Andrea Mutti, Ardian Syaf) and a healthy dose of Miss Fury and The Shadow. To continue with the theme of pulp heroes, let’s head over to IDW Publishing to take a look at Rocketeer/ Spirit Pulp Friction #3 (of 4) ( Mark Waid, Loston Wallace) in what has been a fun series thus far. Valiant Entertainment is up to bat with the anticipated release of the team book Unity #1 ( Matt Kindt, Doug Braithwaite) featuring a number of their more prolific characters. Hot on the heels of a great first issue, Image Comics comes out swinging with Rocket Girl #2 (Brandon Montclare, Amy Reeder) and some incredible art and storytelling. DC Comics brings us the layered work of Kurt Busiek in his ongoing series Astro City #6 (Kurt Busiek, Brent Eric Anderson, Alex Ross). Finally, for those who want their hero stories grim and gritty, Dark Horse Comics brings the pain with X #7 (Duane Swierczynski, Eric Nguyem, Michelle Madsen, Alex Garner) [Check out a few preview pages for this one in the associated slide show] So what are you waiting for? Get that pull list ready and head down to your local comic shop and show some love by stacking up on your favorite reads. Until next week, Enjoy!
