Cassandra Clare reflects on the end of  ‘The Mortal Instruments’ series

The Mortal Instruments are coming to an end. The best-selling young adult book series reaches its finale this week, with Tuesday’s publication of the sixth and final book, City of Heavenly Fire.

It’s a milestone that is both exhilarating and bittersweet — both for fans, and author Cassandra Clare.

“This does mean saying goodbye,” Clare told Novel Novice in an exclusive interview. “I may get to write about Shadowhunters again, but not these Shadowhunters. I won’t get to write another Jace, another Clary, another Alec. Every character is different. I’ll miss their banter and interactions.”

City of Heavenly Fire may be the final book in The Mortal Instruments, but it isn’t the first time fans thought they were saying goodbye to these specific Shadowhuners. Originally, the series was published as a trilogy, with the third book, City of Glass, being released in 2009.

“I originally had the idea that after City of Glass I would spin off into a story that centered around Simon,” Clare said. “There was even the idea that it would be a graphic novel — there’s very early drafts of the graphic novel script lying around! When I started to work on it seriously though I realized it wouldn’t work for me. I had too much left to say about the other characters, especially Jace, Clary, Magnus and Alec.”

However, this time Clare seems certain that the original Mortal Instruments series is over. She is far from done writing about the world of the Shadowhunters. Having already completed one trilogy of prequels, The Infernal Devices, Clare has planned at least two more sets of trilogies in this universe — another set of prequels, and one that looks to the new generation of Shadowhunters.

Clare also recently co-wrote a collection of short stories based on the popular character Magnus with her friends and fellow authors Maureen Johnson and Sarah Rees Brennan. It will be available in a complete set known as The Bane Chronicles in November. (The original stories were only released in electronic form.)

To celebrate Tuesday’s release of City of Heavenly Fire, fans can enter to win a complete boxed set of The Mortal Instruments books and a one-of-a-kind Mortal Instruments hoodie.

Channing Tatum’s 2013 bid is a Gambit payoff

Channing Tatum’s 2013 bid is a Gambit payoff

When Cajun rogue, charmer and mutant Gambit charges up his ballistic-of-choice deck of playing cards the explosive shufflle results has even rocked the likes of Sabretooth on nemesis heels.

A dealt hand is exactly what has Channing Tatum being signed to knock us back in our seats portraying the staff-wielding Louisianian. Producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed the signing during an interview with Total Film. The event was the X-Men X-Perience Global Tour (THR) and the UK’s blue carpet news accompanies some reasons for the casting choice.

Well you know he’s a rogue. Channing. He’s a rascal just like Remy LeBeau. So — and [Tatum] can handle the action, we all know that.

Action-hero status hasn’t been absent from Tatum’s busy acting career. Though his run in the comedy film range enumerates some critically praised movies, “The Eagle”, “Fighting” and a duo of G.I. Joe movies reaffirm Silver Screen cred for physical portrayals.

Right back in Sept. it was Tatum’s espousal to Total Film that brought his bid for playing the mutant to industry light. At this time Fox had already begun filming on the 5th installment “X-Men: Days of Future Past” with director Bryan Singer.

Gambit was a licensed character previously shown in Fox’s produced spinoff “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. In Marvel Comics, the twenty-four years premised superhero began at Uncanny X-Men in 1990, created by Chris Claremont, renowned in X-Men for co-writing seminal story arcs, and Jim Lee, now Co-Publisher at DC Comics.

First look at ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ includes new images

It’s not the first trailer or teaser-trailer fans have been waiting for, but Lionsgate has thrown a small bone at fans of The Hunger Games franchise with a first look at The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

The so-called “first look” can be found via a new website, and features the first official images of Julianne Moore as President Coin, as well as a short animated GIF of Moore in character, and a few other still images from the film. Fans can also read a Q&A with Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence, producer Nina Jacobson, and screenwriter Peter Craig, plus watch a video interview with Moore.

The site is a bit confusing to navigate, but if fans dig deep enough, they can find a few new still images from Mockingjay (including some behind-the-scenes photos), and a chance to read part of the screenplay.

You can find all the images a bit more easily by checking out the slideshow attached to this article (above)!

Of course, Lionsgate still hasn’t said when a teaser or trailer for Mockingjay will debut – and that’s really what fans are clamouring right now. By this time last year, a trailer for Catching Fire had already been released. Granted, Mockingjay is still filming (and is expected to wrap-up later this month) — but most of the filming going on right now is for Part 2 of the film, which doesn’t come out until next year.

Fans just want a peek at Part 1, due in theaters this November.

What do you think of this initial sneak peek? What do you hope to see in a trailer?

‘Batman vs. Superman’: Boom goes director Zach Snyder’s Batman revelations

One. Two.

Back-to-back weekdays Zach Snyder Tweeted unravelments on Batman’s outlook for circa 2018’s theatrical release. Heavy-hitter images posted by Snyder have stopping power.

One: Batmobile revealed. Two: Ben Affleck donning the film’s Bat-suit.

On Monday a pause for all the web-swinging, Helicarrier soaring, time-traveling and a soon-enough up-in-the-sky skyrocketing. Gotham City is known subsist one particular motorific roar that gives Formula 1 a heart-skip and puts cutting-edge into an old garage. Dark Knight fans call it the Batmobile.

While movie-goers enthusiastic for a Wonder Woman costuming attiring Gal Gadot and a Batman suit outfitting Ben Affleck, the “Man of Steel” director was able to catalyze a swerving look about comic book films with a Tweet bearing photo of a tarp over the greater part of a newly designed Batmobile.

And like an engine powered by fans, pundits and bloggers a greater roar accelerated more Caped Crusader outlook than Kryptonian for the upcoming “Batman vs. Superman” developing production.

When Christopher Nolan directed his Dark Knight trilogy the Batmobile was a heavy turbo-burner derivative of a R&D protoype for a military vehicle shelved by the titular Wayne-owned corporation.

Snyder’s pic via Tweet conveys a Batmobile of the same weightiness. The rear look shows a very different design, but the shrouding tarp hints at a longer car frame as well as a sleeker aerodynamic look.

Tuesday may have confirmed that vehicular assessment, plus more.

Snyder let the tarp fly and Tweeted the world take a gander at Affleck all Batman industrial-strength level next to the all-new Batmobile. The Batsuit has a throwback style than has been seen in franchises made post-Tim Burton. Simplistic, Affleck’s costume departs from the Dark Knight trilogy in textures of sectional armor-pieces. More to the point, it advances the style of Batsuit the New DC 52 has adopted.

New Batmobile, new Bat-suit – what are people’s take on it all?

Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer joins the cast of  ‘Divergent’ sequel ‘Insurgent’

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have announced the first new cast member to join the Divergent sequel, Insurgent – and it’s none other than Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer.

Spencer, who won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her 2011 performance in The Help, will play Amity leader Johanna — a character who features prominently in both the second and third books of Veronica Roth’s best-selling trilogy.

Production on Insurgent is expected to begin sometime this month, with theatrical release set for March 2015. Divergent stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet are all expected to reprise their roles in the new movie.

Meanwhile, the third and final book in the series, Allegiant, will actually be split into two films — a controversial move that many fans think is unnecessary, and greedy on the studio’s part.

Earlier today, Lionsgate executives finally spoke out about the decision to split Allegiant, saying they believe there is “more than enough material there to make two substantial, satisfying films.”

New logo revealed for ABC’s newly queued Marvel-based series this Fall

New logo rvealed for ABC’s newly queued Marvel-based series this Fall

On ABC is “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”. On AMC is “Mad Men”. The latter is a drama show’s throwback. For ABC, the network is taking Marvel Cinematic ties once more and reversing the years. A rather retro television pilot is the announced greenlit prequel premise by the network last week. Hayley Atwell will star in the network’s pick-up of “Marvel’s Agent Carter” reported Deadline.

The show will take place in 1946 centering around Agent Peggy Carter much like the web series short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter”, which now seems a production prologue for the Agent Carter program. In comic books, Richmond, Virginia- born Margaret “Peggy” Carter first appeared in 1966s Tales of Suspense (issue #75).

On May 10, Saturday’s TV news prospered with Marvel’s unveiling of the first official logo for ABC network’s series, of which Superherohype posted.

Atwell (“The Duchess”, “The Pillars of the Earth”) brought the well-known comic book character to live action portrayal in 2011s “Captain America: First Avenger”. Carter was the active military liaison and strategic adviser for the super-soldier operations. ABC’s official synopsis posits the series on:

It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.

The logo displays Agent Carter’s silhouette facing towards looming emblem for S.H.I.E.L.D., it seems the SSR is a progenitor for the future intelligence agency Nick Fury decades later heads as director.

The pilot season for Marvel’s newest TV project will arrive a year after “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” debuted its own first season. “AoS” was officially picked up for a sophomore season last week.

“Marvel’s Agent Carter” is the latest that joins a bevy of Marvel-minted adaptations slated for television. “Daredevil”, “Power Man”, “Spider-Woman” and “Iron Fist” burgeons Netflix’s catalog of original programming. The online network had a windfall awards-year for its flagship series “House of Cards” starring Kevin Spacey.

ABC’s Peggy Carter solo also keeps its link to its Captain America roots outside of casting in regards to production development. Christopher Markus and Steve McFeeley co-wrote “Captain America: First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. The Agent Carter-oriented teleplay has been penned by them. With the series moving forward news that the two writers will take a helming debut at executive producing has been underlined. Their new positions on the pilot show puts them alongside Michele Fazekas (“Reaper”, “Resurrection”) and Tara Butters (“Reaper”, “Resurrection”) and Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb.

Beyond Atwell, casting information hasn’t been detailed. Yet with Howard Stark named in the synopsis, it can be presumed that Dominic Cooper (“The Wire”, “Captain America: First Avenger”) may take on the role once more.

‘Neighbors’ a box office Rhino knocking down ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Anybody else believe Seth Rogen had the stuff to take on comic book movies? Not after “Green Hornet” more than likely but one thing comedy’s dominant A-Lister does well is make a move in box office residence worthwhile watching, not a bad thing for the new “Neighbors”. It totals $49. million by Box Office Mojo estimates.

One of the hardest working comedian-cum-actors teams with star Zac Effron for a movie close to a “Freaky Friday” remake as far as casting goes. Effron switches his usual serious straight-faced role for one portraying a hard-partying frat boy. That epithet has belonged to Rogen since before 2007s mega-hit “Superbad”, and even afer last year’s “This is the End” did little to slant that designation. In his latest comedy film Rogen casts himself a suburban-settling father chagrined at the collegiate cavorting disturbing his adulthood lifestyle.

Rogen’s Spring timed release with Universal paid off over May 9 to May 11. “Neighbors” yanked aside “Amazing Spider-Man 2” while almost moving “The Other Woman” out the Top 3s block.

Twentieth Century Fox’s comedy-drama featuring Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton took in $9.6 million. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” web-spun up $35.5 mil entailing a 1st place drop on its second weekend.

For Rogen this three-day opener is one live action flick that outpace all his others. “Shrek the Third”, “Kung-Fu Panda” and “Monsters vs. Aliens” are all animated, and all respectively the top trio deeming the Canadian actor’s debut-categorizing ticket sales.

Sans a superhero claiming number one at the box office, two Marvel proprieties have ranks within the most recent weeks’ Top 5. Sony’s Spider-Man sequel and Marvel Cinematic’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” which placed at 5th over the weekend to the super-soldier intake of $5.7 million. However both superhero movies are 2014s triple-threat in theaters worldwide. Both being comic book movies, action-drama trenders and directorial reprisers they are the movie pack frontrunners for this year so far: first place for the Steve Roger’s Phase 2 and second held by Mark Webb’s radioactive spider originator’s continuance.

Upon the upcoming May 16 to May 18, though, the newest “Godzilla” could flatten “Neighbors” under it’s theatrical heel.
