San Francisco Bay Area Comics Expos 2015

A flurry of recent events and announcements in the SF/Bay Area reveal comics industry happenings. Fans of the medium take note, there will be some interesting developments and landmark expos rolling out in early 2015 and beyond. First up, Image Comics announces Image Expo and a return to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on January 8th. Slatted to announce a slew of creator owned projects for the upcoming year, the event is open to fans, comics retailers and media. Tickets are currently on sale at the rate of $20 for general admission and $50 for premium tickets. Scheduled to make an appearance will be: Brian K. Vaughan, Todd McFarlane, Scott Snyder, Emi Lenox, Jeff Lemire, and Marjorie Liu (with several unmanned surprise guests). Fans of the industry leader in creator owned titles should definitely consider checking this one out as Image always brings the bang for the buck.

Later in the first month of the year, The NORCALMLK Foundation has teamed with comics industry educators, creators and innovators to bring the Bay Area a very special celebration of the comics arts with BCAF Expo. This will be the inaugural kick off of what will become an annual event. BCAF Expo mission is “… to celebrate the creativity and subjectivity of African Americans in the comic arts and popular visual culture and is dedicated to the notion that all audiences deserve to be subject in the culture in which we participate.” With scheduled appearances of industry creators such as: Erika Alexander (Dark Horse Comics ConcretePark), Tony Puryear (Dark Horse Comics Concrete Park;Eraser motion picture), Kevin Grevioux (Marvel Comics Blue Marvel; the Underworld motion picture series, I, Frankenstein motion picture), Afua Richardson (Image/Top Cow Comics Genius, Dark Horse Comics Lady Danger International Agent Of B.O.O.T.I., DC Comics upcoming online comicWonder Woman), Brandon Thomas (Miranda Mecury, Dynamite Entertainments Voltron), LeSean Thomas (Black Dynamite, The Boondocks), and David Walker (the upcoming Dynamite Entertainments Shaft, Dark Horse Comics Number 13, Monkey Brains Comics The Army of Dr. Moreau) just to name a few. This free event will be held January 18-19th in San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Garden and feature a grand expo, kids activities, film screenings, panels and conversations, cosplay events and much more. Fans should definitely mark this one on the calendar.

Finally, over on The BEAT, site reporter Hedi McDonald is reporting news regarding the future of theAlternative Press Expo (APE). Having recently moved from what had been its traditional location for the past few years in San Francisco to the Ft. Mason Center Festival Pavillon in San Francisco, it looks to expand its scope and scale with a move to a new city. Slated to move to San Jose, the convention hopes to shake things up with a fresh start at the San Jose Convention Center (but still maintain its fall dates of October 3 & 4 of 2015). So, no matter how you break it down, the SF/Bay Area is kicking things up a notch with these Comics industry notable events. Get ready for 2015!
