For those looking for some shield slinging super hero shenanigans, Marvel Comics has All New Captain America #6 (Rick Remender, Stuart Immonen). Not one to be left out of the cape and cowl game ,DC Comics steps up and delivers with the packed pages of Multiversity #2 (Grant Morrison, Ivan Reis, Joe Prado). Dark Horse Comics closes things out this week with an intriguing premise unfolding in the pages of Pastaways #2 (Matt Kindt, Scott Kolins). Guardians of Galaxy title goes all-new with Marvel-famed Brian Michael Bendis

Off a favored Guardians of the Galaxy run, it’s easy not to map supposition towards a nesting laurel for superstar comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis. Plenty of press releases make that an easy understanding.

After succeeding a Guardians of the Galaxy restructure launched in 2008 by co-writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning – that went on to source being a central adaptation for Disney’s top selling 2014 summer movie on a global box office scale – Bendis has exceeded more than keeping the comic book’s revival breathing. And in the doing the comics-centric headline pieces have been more a profusing praise in a transmedia accentuation over Bendis’ comics helming once Marvel spun out a top shelf film inauguration for a well-known but lower tiered go-to stratum platforming the titular spacefaring outlaws.

Bendis’ retake on Marvel Comics GotG in 2013 is about to be trumped.

A Guardians of the Galaxy eponymic spin-off is coming this 2015. Its premise, as limned by Bendis in an interview on Marvel.com, retros back to a Marvel title favored by the multi-awards winner back in his influenced youthful days.

When I was a young child, one of the first comic books that I read was MARVEL TEAM-UP. One of the first books I remember reading: Spider-Man was on the moon in [MARVEL TEAM-UP #55]. He wakes up on the moon; he’s hallucinating. [Back in the 1970’s] you couldn’t just run back to the comic store and find the back issues. You were [left wondering] “What? How? What happened? Spider-Man on the moon?!” All these new characters, new concepts and new artwork really got under my skin in the best way. I may have been hooked for life because of that book. I remember that feeling and when Marvel called me and said “We’re thinking about doing GUARDIANS TEAM-UP” I said: “Yeah, let me be as much a part of this as possible.” Because who wouldn’t want to [create] that gateway book for some young reader or some new reader? That MARVEL TEAM-UP issue was a very important book to me. So was MARVEL FANFARE, which was a book that opened my eyes to all the artistic possibilities of comics within the confines of the mainstream. I think and hope that this book will become a mixture of those two things. It’s MARVEL TEAM-UP in the best way and the experience of “look how good comics are, look what we can do that no one else can do.” And you know who we have that no one else has? We have Arthur Adams and a list of other artists that are coming our way.

Artist-writer Art Adams will be the illustrator teamed with Bendis on GotG’s new comic book. The Eisner Awards-winner is famously known for his mini-series on the ’90s popular X-Men affiliatedLongshot. X-Men circle of series were the famed theme that carried a substantial cut of his work with Marvel. His popularity showcasing highlights the likes of one well-known X-Men story arc featuring the New Mutants, “The Asgardian Wars”. Then there are the numerable cover art memorables forUncanny X-Men as well as its spin-off titles. Of recent continued noted work with Marvel holds with the publisher’s Ultimate line.

Now Adams embarks alongside Bendis on a wholly new series that substantiates its uniqueness in its anthological distinction.

Guardians of the Galaxy Team-Up will align some of the brightest Marvel Heroes currently known. The jumpstart issue will team GotG with another team associated with Bendis’ popular portfolio, the Avengers.

There was, back in the ’70s volume, a string of enduring big name talents that created some highlight chapters. One teaming stars legendary creatives Chris Claremont and John Byrne. With this the newGotG Team Up, Bendis professes an allegiance to sharing the collaboritive idea. A round of behind the panels teamings will be a featured part in the new sci-fi / superhero blended series.

“I think the one thing that’s missing for people that only read headlines and of course, if someone is reading this far down it assumes that you are not one of those people but some people think that I’ve added yet another book when I’m popping in and out of this book. This is not going to be my book. It’s going to start with a couple of issues by me. Then it’s going to go right to Sam Humphries as one of the chapters of “Black Vortex” and other creators will be bouncing in and off of this thing, letting them have an opportunity to shine and do their thing as well. Every time that I have the time and a cool story to tell I’ll be bouncing back in with something cool.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Team Up premieres next Feb.

Marvel’s ‘Civil War’ enlists Daniel Brühlto play movie’s villain

“Captain America: First Avenger” rushed a sense of a spindly recruit’s big bold heart worthy to energize a transformed modern warrior’s physique during the cinematic origins of Steve Rogers. An action-thriller’s rush overwhelmed movie-goers attendant at a theater’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” showing this past summer. 2016-bound, Captain America’s franchise gains a caliber of “Rush” toting multi-awards nominations and actor bearance of Daniel Brühl.

A villain that will implode the binding Avenger ties between Captain America and Iron Man prerequisites its portrayer to embody legendary demeanor just as much as the heroes. Probably the Golden Globe, SAG, Critic’s Choice and BAFTA nominee reasons Marvel Entertainment signed Bruhl of “Inglorious Basterds” and “Rush” fame.

Or as closer to likely Producer Kevin Feige cites on the press release,

“With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes.”

Brühl wrestled with the embodiment of a gutsy legend via the “Rush” role for Formula 1 superstar Niki Lauda to critical acclaim in-step with “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth playing Lauda’s acutely keynote rival James Hunt . Now the Spanish-born actor will be cast alongside two more stars in Marvel’s universe, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. in the ambitious take of writer Mark Millar’s comic book miniseries.

Where “Winter Soldier” adapted the comics source material written by Matt Fraction, “Civil War” will follow suit for the Phase 3 installment for Captain America.

‘Neighbors’ a box office Rhino knocking down ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Anybody else believe Seth Rogen had the stuff to take on comic book movies? Not after “Green Hornet” more than likely but one thing comedy’s dominant A-Lister does well is make a move in box office residence worthwhile watching, not a bad thing for the new “Neighbors”. It totals $49. million by Box Office Mojo estimates.

One of the hardest working comedian-cum-actors teams with star Zac Effron for a movie close to a “Freaky Friday” remake as far as casting goes. Effron switches his usual serious straight-faced role for one portraying a hard-partying frat boy. That epithet has belonged to Rogen since before 2007s mega-hit “Superbad”, and even afer last year’s “This is the End” did little to slant that designation. In his latest comedy film Rogen casts himself a suburban-settling father chagrined at the collegiate cavorting disturbing his adulthood lifestyle.

Rogen’s Spring timed release with Universal paid off over May 9 to May 11. “Neighbors” yanked aside “Amazing Spider-Man 2” while almost moving “The Other Woman” out the Top 3s block.

Twentieth Century Fox’s comedy-drama featuring Cameron Diaz and Kate Upton took in $9.6 million. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” web-spun up $35.5 mil entailing a 1st place drop on its second weekend.

For Rogen this three-day opener is one live action flick that outpace all his others. “Shrek the Third”, “Kung-Fu Panda” and “Monsters vs. Aliens” are all animated, and all respectively the top trio deeming the Canadian actor’s debut-categorizing ticket sales.

Sans a superhero claiming number one at the box office, two Marvel proprieties have ranks within the most recent weeks’ Top 5. Sony’s Spider-Man sequel and Marvel Cinematic’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” which placed at 5th over the weekend to the super-soldier intake of $5.7 million. However both superhero movies are 2014s triple-threat in theaters worldwide. Both being comic book movies, action-drama trenders and directorial reprisers they are the movie pack frontrunners for this year so far: first place for the Steve Roger’s Phase 2 and second held by Mark Webb’s radioactive spider originator’s continuance.

Upon the upcoming May 16 to May 18, though, the newest “Godzilla” could flatten “Neighbors” under it’s theatrical heel.

And away we go! Another week stuffed to the gills with new comic book release goodness. Let’s dive right in and take a look at a few titles landing in your local comic shop this week. First up, IDW Publishing revives a character made popular in the pages of the sci-fi/fantasy anthology 2000 A.D. with the debut issue of Rouge Trooper #1 (Brian Ruckley, Alberto Ponticelli, Glenn Fabry) for some future battle front action (be sure to check out the associated video for a peek at a visual timeline of 35 years of 2000 AD presented by Richard Herrero). Next up, Dark Horse Comics gets things rolling with a brand new series from Greg Rucka with Veil #1 (Greg Rucka, Toni Fejzula) and some great looking preview pages (take a look at the associated slide show for a peek). Image Comics has a pair of titles on this week’s list with Starlight #1 (Mark Millar, Goran Parlov, John Cassaday) and Velvet #4 (Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting). Marvel Comics brings back a fan favorite with Moon Knight #1 in what promises to be an interesting take on the cowled crusader (Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey). Finally, check out something new this week! The comic medium is filled with wonderful stories that you may not find on the traditional beaten path. One such title is Ravenhammer Comics Lucius Hammer (Brian Williams, Christian Colbert) series. With the hook “A hero is defined by his actions. Not the color of his skin”, this title nails the elements essential for a superhero title that is destined to become a comic book icon. That about wraps it up for this round true reader. So, be sure to stack them high and until next week, enjoy!

Heroes’ is coming back to television for miniseries called ‘Heroes: Reborn’

TVLine.com just announced this evening, Feb. 22 that NBC is bringing back their hit television show, “Heroes” as a 12 episode miniseries. It will be titled, “Heroes: Reborn”. There is no word of the storyline or if any of the original cast members will return.

The show is set to air in 2015. The original show began in 2006 and ended in 2010 and told the story of normal human beings finding out that they had superpowers. Each week they looked at how these powers affected their personal life.

Here is the official statement from NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke:

“The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” said in announcing the project. Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

So, as you see this is all the news that there is right now. What do you think of a “Heroes” miniseries?

Winning Choices: Zombies and high tech hero rise with PCA wins

Dead for AMC-TV is only a lively ratings part designating channel’s titular zombie series “The Walking Dead”, and at 2014s People’s Choice Awards aired on Jan. 9 its solely not defining the slayings of fellow television comics adaptations any longer. The zombie survival drama leads in award nominations, adding two wins against top comics programming contenders.

“The Walking Dead” was named Favorite Cable TV Drama out of a letter-to-letter line up between big name shows like “Sons of Anarchy” and “Downtown Abbey”. As well, popular shows such as “Breaking Bad” or “Game of Thrones” were eaten alive in the Favorite TV Anti-Hero nomination with Rick Grimes — beating out all-but-deemed- recipient Walter White and one Westeros fan fave Jaime Lannister.

Zombie fare did lose some of its sensationalism within the Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show category. There the night’s beastly network of nominee numbers the CW had its “Beauty and the Beast” take the award. The show’s co-star Kristin Kreuk, formerly of and an early departer of CW’s “Smallville”, gained another People’s Choice for her role under the Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress.

To bad the same hype didn’t culminate across superhero or comics flicks along film categories. Then again, highlight wins were still a standout facet amongst silver screen wins.

Outside of “Gravity” and the drama genre’s racking up of People’s Choices last night, the expanding orbit of superhero movies was in notable play. 2013s highest domestic and worldwide box office grosser had its multi in wins. “Iron Man 3” gained both Favorite Movie and Favorite Action Movie. Tony Stark’s portrayer Robert Downey Jr. further secures his super status amongst the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a Favorite Action Star win. And Marvel’s show “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” on ABC didn’t have any take-homes.

Shockers and surprises during the 2014s PCA ceremony misleads any serious threads for upsets or snubs.

Johnny Depp won Favorite Movie Actor, plausibly shifting away an awards trifecta for Robert Downey Jr. Even so where Sandra Bullock and George Clooney’s team-up win for Favorite Movie Duo wasn’t an accolade for the nomination of Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow. For “Arrow”, its only nomination at Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor for Stephen Amell chanced instead to a recipiency for “The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder.

A complete listing for the PCA’s 2014 winners can be found on its official site.

New Comic Book Releases 1/8/13

Here we are the second week of 2014 starting things off with an interesting event slatted for later in the week in the form of IMAGE EXPO 2014! Image Comics returns to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco January 9th. If you happen to be in the Bay Area, it is a must attend event for fans who want to be in the know on developments over at Image. This year creators such as Kelly Sue Deconnick, Robert Kirkman, Matt Fraction, Rick Remender and many more (with a number of surprise guest planned in the mix). So this week, to celebrate this gathering of industry talent, we’ll take a look at a few of the titles being released from Image this Wednesday. Let’s get started. First up, multi-media favorite mega hit The Walking Dead shambles to stands with issue #119 “All Out War”, part 5 (Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, Stefano Gaudiano, Cliff Rathburn, Dave Stewart). Those seeking some Pulp/ Science Fiction storytelling, you can’t go wrong with Elephantmen #53 (Richard Starkings, Axel Medellin, Boo Cook) and part three of the “Picking Up The Pieces” storyline. If that isn’t enough to sate your craving for Pulp, Five Ghost #8 (Frank J. Barbiere, Chris Mooneyham) may just be what you need. Another genre bender that takes Noir and Horror elements in a whole new direction comes to us in the pages of Fatale #19 (Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips, Elizabeth Breitweiser) and is well worth a read. Continuing with the Horror/Thriller theme, consider checking out the next two titles: Sheltered #6 (Ed Brisson, Johnnie Christmas) and the red hot Manifest Destiny #3 (Chris Dingess, Matthew Roberts, Owen Gieni). Perhaps you are in more of a mood for a tale that incorporates swords and shields this week, then you should be picking up Three #4 (Kieron Gillen, Ryan Kelly, Jordie Bellaire). Last, but not least, those who just want their super hero fix should most definitely check out Invincible Universe #9 (Phil Hester, Todd Nauck, Gabe Eltaeb). That will just about wrap it up for this week, so be sure to head down to you local comic shop to pick up this week’s latest and greatest. Until the next episode, enjoy!
